2. Shaykh Muhammad Khalfan - Eastern Programme Leader

Shaykh Mohammed Khalfan was born in Kenya and spent over ten years in the Hawza of Qum. He is very well known for his articulate lectures and eloquent writing styles. Indeed he is one of the few original writers of the community. After graduating from Qum, he went on to support educational initiatives in Madagascar and Mombasa. He has since returned to Qum and is working on a range of research-based projects.

Shaykh Khalfan takes on the role of Eastern Programme Leader and will have overall responsibility over the standards and delivery of the Eastern modules. He will lead on the selection and monitoring of tutors and will seek to enhance their professional development. He will also be tasked with ensuring that the IIPS curriculum meets all milestones that have been set. Furthermore, Shaykh Khalfan will contribute to the teaching of the key subjects of Aqaid and Akhlaq and will oversee the spiritual nurturing of the students.

Dr Ahmed Hassam, President of The World Federation, commented: "Both Dr Abdulla and Shaykh Khalfan have shown that they have the necessary experience, skill and knowledge to undertake these momentous roles. Our team in Damascus have done an excellent job in creating an Institute and establishing the infra-structure. We now need to focus on taking this to an even higher level of excellence. With these two appointments I would like the community to realise the level of care and professionalism that the IIPS is being given at The World Federation. At the end of the day our young professionals at IIPS have sacrificed a lot to dedicate their futures to the community, and we have an obligation to ensure they are given the very best in Islamic studies. I am sure the entire community will join me in welcoming both Dr Abdulla and Shaykh Khalfan to the Institute."
