---Listening, Reading, Comprehension and Ta'beer

The textbook (Level I) is in three parts:

   1. Part one is about basic Islamic knowledge and Islamic morality (human conduct), which contains some authentic text relating to knowledge of Allah (S.W.T.), The Prophet's Peace be upon him identity, Imams , Religion, language, Qur'an, self-identification, identity, introducing oneself and others in Arabic, Prayers, Masjid, Congregational Prayers etc. This part has drills, exercises, ta'beer (guided composition or basic oral and written production) based upon listening and reading comprehension and based upon exercises and summary & inference making.

   2. Part two contains clear and short authentic Islamic narratives and anecdotes. Most of the stories are taken from the Prophet and Alul-Baith's situations and the way they treated and dealt with people from their religion and other religions. An Interfaith concept and activities are clearly emphasized. This part is full of various drills, comprehension and production exercises, inference making exercises, summary making and paraphrasing (Ta'beer). In each lesson the teacher ensures that the student can identify the gist of the story, its aims and moral lessons taught from it. The three items (Gist-Aim-Lesson) are very important for real understanding and ongoing mental reasoning. Any saying, speech or narration which has no explicit or implicit Gist-Aim-Lesson dimension may be considered nonsense, especially in education.

   3. Part three is about the most common, clear and carefully-selected Islamic verses of poetry about Tawhid, The Prophet , Imam Ali , Wilaya, Imam Hussein , morality, etc. It is also full of drills, comprehension exercises, ta'beer (paraphrasing & production) exercises, discussion and Gist-Aim-Lesson exercises.

Objectives:

   1. To demonstrate comprehension of a clear, short and basic authentic discourses and paragraphs related to self, family, community, academic work and basic religious knowledge.

   2. To demonstrate basic reasoning, draw logical conclusions and infer moral lessons from authentic factual narrative and expository paragraphs and short poetic verses, which put forward arguments and different points of view and entail reasons and results.

   3. To formulate and express opinions on familiar matters as well as on Arabic topics related to Islam, Arabic culture, history, current events and daily life.

   4. To communicate using a series of (spoken & written) connected sentences to describe self, family, academic work, social experiences, and some Islamic topics.

   5. To create connected text on topics which are familiar and of personal interest as well as describe experiences and impressions in short guided paragraphs.
