Second Year Evaluation

The Islamic Institute for Postgraduate Studies (IIPS) has been in operation since September 2007 and currently has a total of ten students from a range of different countries and academic backgrounds.

In order to continue to strive towards excellence in education within the IIPS, a six-person committee was appointed to review key areas of work of the IIPS. The committee was chosen according to their experience and expertise in the fields of education and Tableegh:

   1. Hujjatul Islam: Mawlana Zafar Abbas
   2. Shaykh Dr Murtadha Alidina
   3. Shaykh Dr Mohammad Saeed Bahmanpour
   4. Shaykh Safder Jaffer
   5. Sayyid Mohamed Naqvi
   6. Sister Malika C Jaffer

The team began by reviewing the current standards of operation in key areas including the current syllabus, the IIPS ethos, the original vision of an MTP graduate, objectives of the IIPS, staff roles, criteria for student selection, teaching methodology, timetables, library facilities and resources.

Sheikh Safder Jaffer, who facilitated the assessment process, commented:
“This assessment was an important exercise that was initiated at just the right time. The team then deliberated and discussed a range of issues at the IIPS and found the general direction, quality and student potential to be encouraging and heartening. As with any Institute, there are areas for improvement which the team has recommended that will compliment the efforts that have already been made and will InshAllah go a long way in fulfilling the goals and vision of the Institute.”

Upon receiving a first hand, verbal report, the President of The World Federation, Dr Ahmed Hassam, stated, "I am delighted that a group of highly competent and independent scholars were able to spend a week at the Institute and evaluate its effectiveness in areas including the syllabus, teaching methods, and spiritual development of the students. I am truly grateful to each and every one of these individuals for sacrificing their time away from other commitments to undertake this exercise. Overall, the team were satisfied with the progress so far and have also made some positive and constructive suggestions for improvement, some of which Inshallah will be implemented when the new academic term commences in September 2009."
