Institute Programme in co-operation with the Hawza in Damascus
Yasin Rahim (left) with Shaykh Mohammedali Ismail, the designated Tutor for the Islamic Institute for Postgraduate Studies.
This programme is another milestone in the history of the Khoja Shia
Ithna Asheri Muslim Community. Building on the proud traditions of
continuous contact and spiritual guidance from our Ulama, the community
now feels the need to establish its own Institute of higher learning in
order to produce scholars with the skills and knowledge to be even more
effective within a changing world.
The programme is held in Damascus, within the holy precinct of the
Great Lady Bibi Zainab .
Her spiritual blessings are a commodity most valuable for any success.
The programme will endeavour to align the hawza system together with the
unique ethos of the institute programme - thus taking the best of both
systems and enabling a learning environment that is unique and
challenging. Such a blend has its own challenges, and the Institute has
begun to develop systems and processes to address those challenges.
However, the ultimate litmus test of this will be the graduates of the
programme; those dedicated and sincere individuals who will then enable
the spiritual transformation of the community.
Building capacity in every sphere of Community service has been the
signature of the Secretariat for this term. As the students begin their
classes this week I cannot help but feel that this may well be the
beginning of the most enduring endeavour in capacity building for our
Community, inshaaAllah.
